Summary
What happened, as the record shows.
Thomas Anthony Nuzzi, 52, a traveling registered nurse who had lived in Alaska for seven years, stayed in Anchorage motels between assignments and kept a storage unit for his belongings. He was last definitively seen on the evening of June 18, 2001, on gas-station surveillance near the Super 8 on Minnesota Drive, buying cigarettes and snacks; he was reportedly with an unidentified woman. He failed to report to his next assignment in Bethel on June 19 and was reported missing on June 21. His red 1997 Jeep Cherokee was found abandoned in the Alpenglow parking lot at Chugach State Park, about 12 miles outside Anchorage, with the keys inside; a multi-day search found no trace of him. Motel staff reported a strange man and woman in his room, and the couple reportedly continued to occupy it after he vanished; they were never identified. His nephew found his storage unit unlocked, with wallet, credit cards, ID, and mountain bike inside, but his .38-caliber handgun missing. He has never been found, and no one has been charged.
