Ruthanne Ruppert, 49, traveled from Florida to Yosemite National Park in August 2000 to join a backpacking group. An eye infection forced her to postpone and seek treatment at Yosemite Medical Clinic, and she was last seen in Curry Village at about noon on August 14, 2000. Investigators believe she went on a day hike from Yosemite Falls toward Foresta, intending to catch up with the group. An extensive search found nothing. In 2008 her backpack was found in the Fireplace Creek drainage, consistent with that route. She has a prosthetic eye. No suspect has been named.
