Summary

What happened, as the record shows.

Luise Martinez, 41, a convenience store clerk, was shot once in the head at a Magic Market on Cassville Road in Cartersville, Georgia, in the early morning hours of January 18, 1993, in an apparent robbery attempt. No money was taken because the cash register could not be opened. Martinez had served as a sheriff's deputy in Mora County, New Mexico, and as a Marine veteran with two tours in Vietnam, and was working in Georgia while supporting family still living in Mora County. Three young males seen in the area 20 to 30 minutes before the murder were sought as possible witnesses, not named as suspects. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation assisted the Cartersville Police Department. No arrest has been reported.
