Summary

What happened, as the record shows.

Elizabeth Elena Laguna Salgado, 26, was an engineer and former missionary from Chiapas, Mexico, who moved to Provo on March 23, 2015, to study English at the Nomen Global language school. On April 16, 2015, she texted her sister that she was heading home from school and never reached her apartment, which was less than two miles away. Searches by police, the FBI, and volunteers found no trace of her for three years. On May 18, 2018, a man found human remains in Hobble Creek Canyon, and dental records confirmed they were Salgado. The Utah County Sheriff's Office took over the case from Provo police, said the circumstances indicated homicide, and has never publicly named an official person of interest or made an arrest, while the cause and manner of death have not been made public.
