On May 18, 2002, 20-year-old Carol Guillen was called to the payphone at the Quick Stop Market in Yuba City, California. Her body was later found in a nearby orchard with multiple gunshot wounds, and her car had been returned to the market and abandoned. The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. No arrests have ever been made.

   Between 6:30 and 7 p.m., Carol Guillen, 20, was summoned to the payphone area of the Quick Stop Market at 1620 Lincoln Road in Yuba City.

   Investigators believe she met at least one person on the east side of the store and left the lot in her black 1999 Honda Civic, heading south on Walton Avenue.

   Her body was found in an orchard near Bogue and Walton Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds to the face; her car had been returned to the market and left abandoned.

   The Sutter County Sheriff's Office published a homicide update and announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

   Her father Carlos Guillen told the Appeal Democrat he was not satisfied with the investigation and feared the killer was still at large.

6. 2026

   Coverage continues to describe the case as an unsolved cold-case homicide with no arrests made.
