Summary

What happened, as the record shows.

Brittany Lynn Locklear, 5, a Lumbee kindergartner, waited at the end of her family's driveway in Raeford, North Carolina, for her school bus on the morning of January 7, 1998. When her mother returned after briefly stepping inside, Brittany was gone, and witnesses described a man in a brown pickup truck. On January 8 her body was found in a roadside drainage ditch roughly three miles from home. A man investigated in 2003 was ruled out by DNA, and in 2015 investigators developed a genetic profile of the perpetrator, still with no match and no arrest.
